2005 NCAA Division II National Champions
UNO completed a goal of posting back-to-back national titles when they etched their name on the NCAA Division II trophy in 2005. The victory had special meaning because it was accomplished in front of the home fans in a packed Lee & Helene Sapp Fieldhouse on March 12. UNO crowned three individual national champions and earned the team title with 109.5 points, followed by Augustana with 101 points. The Mavericks trailed Augustana by four points entering the morning’s third session, then won 10 of 12 matches on the day to propel them to the victory. UNO’s Patrick Allibone (157 pound sophomore), J.D. Naig (165 pound sophomore), and Les Sigman (285 pound junior) all won national championships. In addition, Eli Dominguez placed second at 141 pounds, Dustin Tovar third at 125 and Steve Conlin was seventh at 174 pounds to earn All-American honors. For Sigman, it was his third straight national championship, all without allowing an offensive point in three NCAA II
